Did you hear that?

OK...
just have to put this down for the record...

Early morning.. Lotte just out bed, (but been awake for a while) and is sitting on the toilet.. doing a (powerful) #1. No CI on the ears / shoulders... so completely deaf....
Lotte's mother is there as well, hearing how she is working... Suddenly a big "splash..!!".
Lotte triumphantly looks up to her mom and says... "Did you hear that..!" :-)

(Update: more a "plong" than a "splash"..)

What's going on inside that lovely girl's head.. ??? LOL
(Probably this..)

That's a great story!

Erin frequently calls us back to her room at night asking "What was that loud noise??" Sometimes it's the garage door opening below her room, sometimes a door closing near her room.

It has happened enough to make me realize that the term "hear" means something very different to her. It encompasses all her senses, not just sound. Because she still uses her sense of touch, smell, visual cues, etc. to interpret the sounds she hears, she doesn't use the term the way we do.

It fascinates me!

It's like that with ASL too. Two people having a conversation in ASL and they think they are loud - mentally - but when a third person comes in and say "Gosh, it's quiet in here"
